McGowan Hits the Grant Jackpot!
Anna McGowan is a member of our first #MSUrbanSTEM cohort. She continues to be a strong advocate for making a difference in STEM education. Recently, she received a $7500 grant from the Bemis Foundation to implement a K-5 Project Lead the Way STEM curriculum at Sauganash Elementary School. The curriculum consists of 4 modules (2 Engineering, 1 Computer Science, and 1 basic Science). These components vary based upon grade level. McGowan expressed that she is very excited to implement the curriculum with her K-8 STEM students.
There’s more! McGowan also received two additional grants from The Chicago Foundation for Education (CFE). She was awarded a $500 grant to purchase Makey-Makey kits and Little Bits sets. Another $1100 grant will allow McGowan to offer a professional development opportunity for fellow educators titled “Mastering the STEM Habits of Mind in Project Based Learning.”
“I would never have attempted these grants without having had the experience of nurturing my leadership skills and becoming a more seasoned STEM educator through the MSU-WIPRO Urban STEM Fellowship program,” McGowan shares. Congratulations! Can’t wait to see what you explore, create and share!
