One STEM Chicago is Back!

Michael Kosko has returned to #MSUrbanSTEM as a Sustainability Fellow.  Kosko has a very special way of bringing STEM to life and spreading the love for STEM all over Chicago.  Last year, he launched One STEM Chicago, which allows classrooms all over the city to participate in a common STEM lesson.  Lessons can be differentiated according to grade level.  It also provides an opportunity for participating classrooms to collaborate and share their learning experience with each other.
The annual One STEM Chicago event took place during the week of December 11th.   The goals for the days were primarily designed to:
1. Celebrate STEM education in Chicago Public Schools
2. Allow educators across the city to collaborate on a common lesson that is scaffolded by grade level and aligned to different content areas
3. Provide students with the opportunity to discuss their learning and experiences with another classroom in the city
Participants all over the city tackled the Spaghetti Tower Challenge.  Teachers shared their pictures using hashtag #oneSTEMchi.  This year, One STEM Chicago partnered with Studio Gang Architects.  They provided a great follow-up video to support the lesson.
“I’m really happy with the success of this year’s event and looking forward to hosting another challenge in the spring.  I also submitted a proposal to ISTE about the project and will be presenting about it at the annual conference this June in Chicago!” Kosko was excited to share.  Stay tuned for more information on how YOU can join the fun!
