Kimlona Brown Leads Hands-On Professional Development

#MSUrbanSTEM Sustainability fellow, Kimlona Brown recently held an exciting workshop for her fellow co-workers. Plickers is a simple tool that allows teachers to collect real-time data without the need for individual student devices.  Teachers can then individual instruction with instant feedback.    Brown was very eager to share Plickers with her colleagues because she has witnessed the huge difference it made within her own classroom.  She feels that Plickers made assessing and grading much easier!  And guess what?  It’s FREE!
The workshop was very hands-on, starting out with a survey using Plickers.  None of the attendees had ever used the assessment tool before, so you can imagine the excitement.  We all love to learn something new, right?  Brown received a text message shortly after the workshop expressing excitement over using Plickers in her own classroom.  Brown admits that a lot of these teachers were stepping outside of their comfort zones by using new EdTech tools, but she said, “They know if I can do it, they can too!”
Each teacher left with their own classroom set of cards so they could get started right away.  “They are looking forward to the next workshop and so am I!”  Brown shares.
