Ashley Rose Puts a Spin on Teaching Neuroscience

Ashley Rose was recently acknowledged in her school newspaper for bringing the fun factor back to science labs.  The most recent lab consisted of conducting electrical outputs, which resulted in musical cockroach legs!  That makes neuroscience “sound” a little more fun, huh?  Other lab activities include the creation of optical illusions and the use of makey-makey kits.

Rose implemented these curriculum changes in hopes of increasing student engagement and overall understanding of the content.  Her students are responding well to the new style of learning.  They are excited about the creative integration of technology and the hands-on experiences.  Rose says her vision was highly influenced by Punya Mishra, who encouraged her to make the real-world connections needed for success.  Rose is bringing science to life one fun lab at a time!
